Do you know Billy Harris? If not, you should. You really should. Billy runs in the most enviable of food industry circles, emcees some of the best event in the culinary world, and he recently began hosting his own epic dinner series. He is very connected and well-liked and frank and fun. His hair and flair are unmistakably “Billy.” In case you missed it somehow, that’s him above.
He says things like, “Oh yes, that Nancy Silverton episode of Chef’s Table was filmed right next to my villa in Italy. Isn’t she just so wonderful?” And then he invites you to a five course meal prepared by Nancy and her team at Osteria Mozza in LA.
You say “yes,” and get yourself to SoCal. There are a lot of beautiful LA-type people there and you let yourself relish in it. You hear someone say the producer of New Girl is in the room and you glance around looking for Zoey Deschanel, which makes no sense at all. But then YOU GET TO MEET CHEF NANCY SILVERTON, and almost more importantly, you get to eat her mind blowing pizza. The pizza lives up to the hype, which is a tall order, because there’s a lot of hype.
DRY Blood Orange. You meet the blogger behind Love and Loathing LA. Although she is 50 shades cooler than you, she is so nice and down to earth that you are thankful she is successful. And then you help raise money for charities like No Kid Hungry, Alex’s Lemonade Stand and Piggy Bank. It ends abruptly when you realize you have a flight to catch and still need to return the van you rented (long story – we are always multitasking at DRY). But it’s an amazing night that has filled all your senses to the brim. You will never ever forget it.
Here’s an idea of what it was like:
